Jindal Steel Duqm receives key equipment for green steel project

Jindal Steel Duqm LLC has received a 935-ton reactor at the Port of Duqm, with the heavy-lift operation handled by Kanoo Shipping, a major ship service provider in the Middle East. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Kanoo Shipping Oman, which managed the planning, coordination and technical execution of the delivery.

Jindal Steel Duqm, also known as Vulcan Green Steel, is developing a 5 mln tons per year green steel complex at the Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in two phases. The first phase is expected to become operational by Q1 2027, with major equipment orders already placed and construction progressing on site.

The group is also building a 6 mln tons per year pelletizing plant in Sohar to produce high-grade iron ore pellets for its operations.

Jindal’s activities in Oman span four business units. Besides the Duqm project, Jindal Steel Sohar, formerly Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel, is the largest privately owned integrated steel producer in the GCC, operating a 2 mln tons per year gas-based DRI plant, a 2.4 mln tons per year melt shop with EAF and ladle furnaces, and a 1.4 mln tons per year rebar mill.

The group further expanded its presence in 2023 with the acquisition of Sohar Steel, adding 700,000 tons per year of long-products capacity.
