Germany’s Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech has commissioned a new hot straightening machine at its Mulheim an der Ruhr plant, expanding its heavy plate processing capabilities and targeting new applications in the energy infrastructure sector.
The new facility enables the production of particularly thick and high-strength steel plates for applications including foundations and support structures for offshore wind turbines. The investment is expected to strengthen Salzgitter’s position in the growing wind energy and energy infrastructure markets.
The machine was developed in cooperation with Austrian engineering company Buma Engineering & Anlagenbau to meet the specific requirements of the Mulheim plant. Installation involved dismantling the existing equipment and constructing the new system, with special tracks installed over the cooling beds to facilitate the work.
Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech is part of the Salzgitter Group and specializes in heavy plate products, serving sectors including energy infrastructure and wind power.
