Turkey’s scrap import prices increased this week as tighter availability and firm freight costs supported the market. MESTEEL assessed HMS 1&2 (80:20) at USD 375-380 per ton CFR Turkey, up USD 5 per ton week-on-week.
Turkish steel mills remained cautious, with buying activity limited this week. Some market insiders said any improvement in buying activity would depend on continued improvement in the finished steel segment.
On the supply side, sentiment remained firm amid limited scrap availability, while high freight and collection costs also provided support to prices.
Turkish export rebar prices were assessed at USD 595-605 per ton FOB, up USD 5 per ton week-on-week, while wire rod prices stood at USD 610-620 per ton FOB, unchanged from the previous week.
