Alstom, a multinational transport company specializing in railways and mobility solutions, is driving the growth of Morocco’s rail industry through a significant investment of MHD 160 mln (USD 16.28 mln) in the construction of a second rail plant. The new facility will focus on manufacturing driving cabs for regional and underground railway trains, as stated in a press release.
This investment follows Alstom Morocco’s previous announcement in 2020 about the expansion of its plant in Fez and the subsequent construction of a second production line in 2021. The Fez site is currently engaged in the production of electrical wiring and Mitrac transformers.
The establishment of the second plant aligns with Alstom’s commitment to develop the Moroccan rail ecosystem and foster local rail expertise.
The company has played a significant role in numerous prominent projects across the country, including the installation of signaling systems, delivery of 190 trams to Rabat (66 trams) and Casablanca (124 trams), provision of 12 trains for the high-speed rail link between Tangier and Casablanca, and supply of 77 locomotives offering optimized solutions for freight, passenger, and combined transport services.
