Iranian steelmakers experienced substantial growth in exports during the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2024 (March 21 – June 21). According to the latest data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association, a total of 2.104 mln tons of semi-finished steel products were exported during this period, marking an impressive 11pct increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Billet and bloom accounted for the majority of semi-finished steel exports, reaching an aggregate of 1.458 mln tons, showing a significant 10.5pct increase YoY. Additionally, slab exports stood at 646,000 tons, with a notable YoY growth of 10.6pct.
The export of finished steel products also witnessed robust growth, surging by 36pct to 829,000 tons compared to the same period last year. Long steel exports totaled 699,000 tons, a substantial increase from 507,000 tons during the same period the previous year. Rebar was the major long steel product exported during this period, reaching 608,000 tons and experiencing a remarkable YoY growth of 31.3pct.
Furthermore, flat steel exports increased by an impressive 49.4pct YoY, totaling 130,000 tons. The major product exported in this category was HR steel, accounting for 112,000 tons.
