Tata Steel IJmuiden and Wuppermann Staal have reaffirmed their dedication to European customers by renewing their supply and tolling agreements. The focus of these agreements remains on delivering galvanized hot-rolled strip steel to a diverse array of industries, including automotive and solar energy.
Under the new three-year contract, Tata Steel will provide Wuppermann with hot-rolled strip steel that boasts precise thickness tolerances and excellent surface quality. Notably, a portion of the supplied volume will be Zeremis Carbon Lite, a steel variant with a remarkable CO2 footprint reduction of up to 90pct, aligning with Wuppermann’s focus on sustainability within their supply chains. Additionally, the tolling agreement between Tata Steel and Wuppermann has been extended.
The collaboration between the two companies deepens through two strategic initiatives. Tata Steel will share specific production data of the supplied steel, enabling Wuppermann to optimize their steel processing efficiency and reduce waste, ultimately leading to cost savings and a more sustainable production process.
Furthermore, the companies are embarking on a pilot scrap buyback program, aiming to create a closed-loop system. This initiative is in line with Tata Steel’s commitment to enhance customer service and its ambition to increase the utilization of scrap in steel production. Recycling each ton of scrap results in a significant reduction of 1.6 tons of CO2 compared to steel made from iron ore.
As steel plays a pivotal role in numerous industries like automotive and solar energy, the supply of high-quality steel is essential for processing and final finishing. Tata Steel provides such steel to Wuppermann, who performs hot dip galvanizing, before delivering the processed steel to manufacturers for further processing.
Wuppermann Group, a German-based steel processor, excels in CO2 efficient hot dip galvanizing of hot strip steel. With five production sites across the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, and Hungary, Wuppermann Staal Nederland stands as the largest producer of galvanized strip steel within the group, serving customers throughout Europe and the US.
