    Tsingshan’s subsidiary commences production at 1 bln steel plant in Manhize

    Zimbabwe’s Dinson Iron and Steel Company, a subsidiary of China’s Tsingshan Holding Group, has commenced production at its USD 1 bln steel plant in in Manhize near Mvuma.

    Wilfred Motsi, the project director of Tsingshan’s Dinson Iron and Steel Company, announced that the plant has initiated pig iron production in the first phase and is set to commence billet production next month.

    The company aims to produce 600,000 tons of steel in the initial phase, with plans to increase production to 1.2 mln tons, then to 3.2 mln tons, and ultimately to 5 mln metric tons per year in the final phase. The plant’s output will primarily consist of long steel products such as rebar and wire rod.

    In addition to the steel plant, Tsingshan operates ferrochrome, coking coal, and lithium mining businesses in Zimbabwe. Furthermore, the company has constructed a 50-megawatt thermal power plant at Dinson. The steel plant intends to utilize gas from its furnace to fulfill 20pct of its electricity requirements.
