In June 2024, Pakistan saw a significant surge in finished steel imports, with a 67.6pct YoY increase, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The country imported 302,412 tons of finished steel during the month, compared to 180,429 tons in the same period the previous year. This sharp uptick can be partially attributed to the low-base effect from LC opening issues experienced last year.
In Jan-May 2024, finished steel imports in Pakistan rose by 39.4pct YoY, totaling 1.2 mln tons.
