EPCG launches tender to lease special steel plant in Niksic

Montenegro’s state-controlled power utility EPCG has initiated a new tender to lease the production facilities of the troubled steel mill EPCG Zeljezara Niksic, aimed at revitalizing production at the plant.

According to the tender invitation, EPCG is offering a lease term ranging from 15 to 50 years for the production facilities. Bidders are required to propose a monthly lease fee between EUR 30,000 and 150,000 (USD 32,490-162,444) and submit a five-year business plan detailing investments in existing production facilities, machinery, and auxiliary equipment. They must also outline plans for expanding production capacities and commit to hiring between 100 and 150 workers within the first six months of the lease contract.

The bidding deadline is set for July 24.

EPCG acquired Zeljezara Niksic from Turkey’s Toscelik for USD 22 mln in December 2022.

Located in Niksic, the plant features two 60-ton electric arc furnaces with an annual crude steel production capacity of approximately 300,000 tons. The facility specializes in alloy steel, non-alloy steel, roller-bearing steel, tool steel, and heat-resistant steel production.
