Pittini Group to upgrade Verona plant with new bar finishing facility

Italy’s Pittini Group has signed a contract with Danieli to upgrade its two-strand wire rod mill and add a new bar finishing facility at the Acciaieria di Verona plant.

The upgrade will enable the production of bars ranging from 8 to 36 mm in diameter, in bundles of up to 5 tons, and lengths from 6 to 18 meters. This new production capability will complement the existing output of 5 to 25 mm diameter quality wire rod from the current Danieli mill at the Verona site.

The upgraded mill will feed both the new bar line and the existing wire rod mill, which can operate simultaneously. A new, compact, Danieli-patented Direct Rolling Bundling station will facilitate the high-speed delivery of bars into the cooling bed within a narrow, optimized space.

Danieli Automation’s process control, featuring extensive use of servo drives, time-critical applications, and sensors, will ensure high performance in terms of operational speed, product quality, efficiency, and maintainability. The advanced interconnection and data management systems will also be ready for artificial intelligence integration.

This investment is set to make Acciaieria di Verona one of the most flexible and competitive mills in Europe, according to Danieli. The hot startup of the new bar line is planned for the end of 2025.
