Russian steel producer Severstal has completed the construction of a roll forming unit for cold-formed sheet piles at its Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant.
The new unit, with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons, makes Severstal the first Russian company to produce cold-formed sheet piles under the Grani brand. These piles are used in hydraulic structures, transport, and civil construction, such as retaining walls, bridge supports, and riverbank protection. Previously, such products were imported.
The line includes an uncoiler, shears, a butt welding machine, 20 forming stands, a plasma cutting unit, and a packaging line. It also features hydraulic and pneumatic systems and enhanced automation for improved safety and efficiency. All equipment underwent separate checks and comprehensive testing before the line’s launch.
Located at the Sheksna site in the Vologda region, this facility will soon see further investment with the commissioning of a pile pipe production line expected in the fourth quarter of 2024.
