Voestalpine Group’s Steel Division will withdraw from the cam units and sliding elements business at its Linz site, gradually discontinuing the operations of Voestalpine Camtec GmbH by the end of the 2025/26 business year (March 31, 2026). The 53 affected employees will have the opportunity to transfer to other Voestalpine units in Linz and will receive individual support for their career transition.
Voestalpine Camtec GmbH specializes in producing cams and maintenance-free sliding elements from brass, copper, and aluminum, primarily supplying the automotive and mechanical engineering industries. However, rising energy and labor costs, along with increased price competition from non-European competitors, especially China and India, have made production in Linz uncompetitive. Additionally, weak demand in the European machinery and toolmaking sectors has further impacted the company’s viability, despite recent improvements in capacity utilization.
The Voestalpine Group’s Steel Division, a global leader in high-quality steel products, is focused on achieving net-zero emissions in steel production with its Greentec steel initiative.
