ArcelorMittal upgrades Eisenhuttenstadt mill with latest automation technology

ArcelorMittal has successfully produced its first coil after upgrading the automation system at its hot-rolling mill in Eisenhuttenstadt, Germany. This facility is now fully equipped with Primetals Technologies’ latest automation platform.

Primetals Technologies implemented the new system in two phases, covering the finishing mill, coiler area, and roughing mill. The upgraded automation has improved system availability and allowed ArcelorMittal to maintain production during scheduled maintenance without additional downtime.

The collaboration between ArcelorMittal and Primetals ensured a swift and efficient startup, exceeding expectations with rapid production ramp-up and increased productivity. Core functions were preserved, enabling operators to quickly adapt to the new software. ArcelorMittal Eisenhuttenstadt, an integrated steel plant founded in 1950, produces flat steel for the automotive, home appliances, and enameling industries.
