Italy’s Acciaierie Venete has awarded AIC an order to automate the control systems of the rolling mill, shears, and cooling bed entry line at its Buja plant.
In this project, AIC focused on implementing critical control systems for the rolling mill and stands, including master cascade speed control, loop and tension control, and the three intermediate shears (with clutch, brake, and start-stop functions). Additionally, AIC enhanced the cooling bed entry line with a start-stop shear, slider, and rakes. The project also involved the supply and installation of new electrical panels and sensors, along with a completely new Human-Machine Interface (HMI). It was completed in August, enabling the plant to resume full productivity immediately.
The upgraded control system significantly improves reliability and increases cooling bed entry speed, especially for challenging profiles like the 10 mm round. This enhancement boosts productivity by maximizing production speed and plant availability.
Acciaierie Venete has been an Italian steel producer since 1957, initially focusing on commodities such as ingots, billets, and rebars. In the 1980s, the company transformed its operations to produce high-quality long steel products. With an annual production capacity of about 2 mln tons, Acciaierie Venete operates multiple production and processing sites across Italy. The steel produced is utilized in various sectors, including automotive, earthmoving and agricultural equipment, energy, mechanical engineering, and construction.
