Turkey imported around 1.86 mln tons of semi-finished steel in the first eight months of this year, a 25pct decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Russia remained the largest billet supplier, with imports totaling around 381,000 tons, though this marked a significant 66pct YoY drop. Malaysia followed with 316,000 tons, and Algeria with 234,000 tons.
In August 2024, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports reached 273,200 tons, reflecting a 25pct YoY increase and a 4.5pct rise compared to the previous month.
