    Steel exports grew 26 pct in Sept 2024 YoY

    China’s steel exports surged by 25.93pct in September compared to the previous year, reaching 10.15 mln tons, the highest monthly figure since July 2016, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.

    In the first nine months of 2024, exports increased by 21.2pct YoY to 80.71 mln tons.

    Meanwhile, China imported 554,000 tons of steel products in September, marking an 8.84pct rise from August but a 13.44pct decline compared to the same month last year. The total for January to September stands at 5.19 mln tons, reflecting a 9pct annual decrease.

    Additionally, China’s iron ore imports rose by 2.7pct from August and 2.9pct YoY, totaling 104.13 mln tons in September. In Jan-Sept 2024, China’s iron ore imports increased by nearly 5 pct YoY to 918.87 million tons.
