Nucor to commission new orbital cut-off saw at Marseilles plant

Nucor Tubular Products Marseilles has awarded Danieli Centro Tube a contract for a new orbital cut-off saw for its 5K-ERW mill in Marseilles, Illinois, USA. This saw will cut welded tubes up to 6 5/8 inches (168 mm) in diameter and equivalent square and rectangular sections, with wall thicknesses up to 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) at speeds of up to 460 feet per minute (140 m/min).

The high-speed, cut-to-length performance is achieved through lightweight moving parts and a powerful, ultra-precise traveling system on the cutting head. The new saw will replace the existing friction saw, aiming to enhance cutting quality and eliminate burrs. Features include optimized cutting lengths to reduce scrap, fully automatic setup, fewer jaws for maintenance ease, and a design that fits existing foundations without major modifications.

The start-up is expected by the end of summer 2025.
