SteelAsia boosts rebar exports to Canada

SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation, a major steel producer in the Philippines, recently shipped 14,200 tons of high-strength rebar valued at USD 8.8 mln to Canada from its Davao mill. This marks the first time that SteelAsia’s Davao mill, which has a 600,000-ton-per-year capacity, and the first steel mill in Mindanao, has exported steel products, the company stated.

This latest shipment is SteelAsia’s seventh rebar export for Canadian infrastructure projects but the first from its newly accredited Davao mill. The previous six shipments, totaling over 41,400 tons of rebar worth USD 27.32 mln, were sent from SteelAsia’s Batangas mill. With this new addition, the company’s total exports to Canada now exceed 55,600 tons of rebar valued at USD 36.12 mln.

SteelAsia anticipates future rebar shipments from the Davao Works will surpass those delivered by its Calaca mill, with a new order of over 30,000 tons already secured.

As the Philippines’ leading rebar manufacturer, SteelAsia has an annual production capacity of over 3 mln tons across its six steel plants. Earlier this year, the company announced a USD 1 bln expansion plan over the next two to four years to diversify its product offerings, which will include wide flange beams, sheet piles, wire rods, flat bars, channels, T-bars, and lattice girders.
