Turkey imported approximately 2.13 mln tons of semi-finished steel, billet, and bloom in the first nine months of 2024, marking a nearly 17pct decline from the same period last year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Russia remained Turkey’s largest supplier of semi-finished steel, accounting for about 447,400 tons. Malaysia followed with 383,000 tons, then Indonesia with 274,000 tons, and Algeria with 233,700 tons.
In September 2024, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports totaled 273,000 tons, showing a sharp YoY increase of 198pct but remaining steady month-over-month. Malaysia was the top exporter to Turkey in September, delivering 67,000 tons, followed by Russia with 66,000 tons.
