Turkey imported approximately 8.14 mln tons of iron ore during the first nine months of 2024, marking a 26pct increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Brazil remained Turkey’s largest supplier, exporting around 4.29 mln tons of iron ore, a YoY rise of 5.2pct. Ukraine followed with 1.01 mln tons, while South Africa supplied 861,000 tons.
In September 2024, Turkey’s iron ore imports totaled about 1.04 mln tons, representing a 5pct decline YoY. However, imports surged by 146pct compared to the previous month, reflecting significant month-on-month growth.
