Scrap import prices slide amid subdued finished steel demand

Turkey’s scrap import prices fell this week as mills secured cargoes at lower rates. Prices are now assessed at USD 340-345 per ton CFR, down from USD 350-360 per ton CFR last week.

The decline is largely driven by weak demand for Turkish finished steel in both domestic and international markets.

Turkish steelmaker Kardemir reopened local rebar sales this week but failed to secure significant orders despite lowering prices, highlighting ongoing market pessimism.

Export activity has also been subdued due to slow demand and competitive offers from other countries.

Market opinions are divided on future price movements. Some insiders believe scrap prices may have bottomed out, while others expect both scrap and steel prices to face continued pressure in the short term.

Turkish rebar export prices remain steady at USD 580-590 per ton FOB, while wire rod export offers are unchanged at USD 595-605 per ton FOB compared to last week.
