Japanese steel distribution giant Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. announced that its UK subsidiary, Barclay & Mathieson Limited (B&M), has acquired 100pct of the shares in Angus F. Gunn Limited.
Founded in 1958 and based in Airdrie, Scotland, Angus F. Gunn is a steel plate processing and sales company known for its advanced processing techniques and state-of-the-art heavy plate equipment. The company holds a diverse inventory of steel grades, including high-strength materials, and has established a strong reputation, primarily serving Scotland and Northern England.
B&M, which operates 15 depots across the UK, sees the acquisition as a strategic move to enhance its processing, sales, and service capabilities. This integration strengthens B&M’s presence in Scotland’s key industries, such as oil and gas, renewable energy (particularly offshore wind), and construction.
The acquisition will enable B&M to better meet customer needs and expand its service offerings, according to a statement from Marubeni-Itochu Steel.
