Greek steelmaker Sovel has awarded Danieli Automation a contract to modernize the electrical and automation systems of its bar mill in Almyros, Magnesia.
The project aims to enhance production safety, stability, and reliability by replacing outdated hardware with state-of-the-art Danieli Automation devices and advanced process control systems. This modernization will prepare the mill for future demands while ensuring compliance with the European Machine Directive.
The Almyros facility is a single-strand bar rolling mill capable of producing medium-diameter bars on a single line and smaller sizes on a high-speed double line. It features fast-finishing blocks, quenching systems, tail breakers, and double twin channels for optimized production. The upgrade is scheduled for completion by August 2025. Sovel produces a diverse range of steel products, including billets, rebar, spooled coils, wire mesh, and prefabricated stirrup cages.
