India has announced restrictions on the import of low-ash metallurgical coke, according to a notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). From January to June 2025, imports will require authorization from the DGFT, specific to the exporting country.
Metallurgical coke with ash content above 18pct is exempt from these restrictions.
The country-wise quotas, effective for six months, include 51,276 tons for Australia, 78,646 tons for China, 249,771 tons for Colombia, 66,364 tons for Indonesia, 209,980 tons for Japan, and 506,336 tons for Poland. Other allocations include 89,182 tons for Russia, 81,774 tons for Switzerland, and smaller volumes for other countries.
The restrictions will automatically end on June 30, 2025, but the government reserves the right to revise or adjust these measures as necessary, the notification said.
