SSAB and ILAB to introduce fossil-free steel containers by 2026

SSAB collaborates with ILAB Container AB to introduce fossil-free steel into container manufacturing, aiming for a launch by 2026. ILAB Container AB specializes in producing environmentally friendly containers for the Nordic construction sector, promoting circular economy principles.

“We’ve worked with ILAB since 2008, jointly developing products like gravel flatbed trailers in Hardox 500Tuf and Strenx 700 frames. Now, we’re advancing our partnership by investing in fossil-free containers,” says Per-Olof Kull, SSAB’s technical project manager.

In the interim, ILAB Container AB will offer products made with SSAB Zero steel, which emits 0.0 kg CO2 per kg of steel, thanks to its use of recycled steel scrap and fossil-free energy sources.

SSAB collaborates with LKAB and Vattenfall in the HYBRIT initiative to transition to fossil-free iron and steel production, eliminating CO2 emissions from the process.
