Vallourec receives approvals to extend Pau Branco iron ore mine

Vallourec, a global leader in premium tubular solutions, has secured approvals from Brazil’s state environmental authority (COPAM) and federal mining regulator (ANM) to proceed with the first phase extension of its Pau Branco iron ore mine in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This mine serves as a crucial raw material source for Vallourec’s integrated tube production and expands the company’s revenue streams through external iron ore sales.

The Phase 1 extension project aims to prolong the mine’s operational life, enhance reserve quality, and boost profitability. With approvals in hand, capital investments for Phase 1 will commence as planned, with Vallourec anticipating a successful start-up by late 2024.

Looking ahead, Vallourec is preparing for Phase 2 of the mine extension, projected for completion by 2027. The company is actively collaborating with state and national authorities to secure necessary production and environmental permits for Phase 2 operations.
