Turkey’s scrap imports exhibited significant changes in May 2024, rising 4.2pct YoY and 20pct month-on-month to reach 1.8 mln tons.
The United States remained Turkey’s primary source of scrap imports, although imports from the US decreased by 18.5pct YoY, totaling approximately 395,000 tons.
In contrast, the United Kingdom saw a significant increase, with imports tripling to around 252,000 tons. The Netherlands also experienced a significant rise, with imports doubling to about 226,000 tons.
Germany, however, saw a 10pct YoY decrease, supplying roughly 104,000 tons.
Additional sources of scrap imports included Denmark (91,000 tons), Russia (88,000 tons), Belgium (80,000 tons), and Venezuela (77,000 tons).
