Tata Steel UK’s Llanwern steelworks has set a new weekly output record of 14,077 tons, surpassing the previous record by 242 tons, following the introduction of a new technology system on its Zodiac galvanizing line. This achievement marks the most productive week in the Zodiac line’s 35-year history.
The zinc-coated steel produced at Llanwern is used for car body parts and building components, supplying leading manufacturers across the UK. The plant’s new technology system, OSCAR, enables full automation of the line, including seamless transitions between shifts. The successful trial suggests that the plant is well on track to meet its target of producing 600,000 tons of high-quality zinc-coated steel strip this year.
Tata Steel is the largest steelmaker in the UK, with primary steelmaking operations at Port Talbot in South Wales, and manufacturing and distribution sites across Wales, England, Northern Ireland, as well as in Norway, Sweden, France, and Germany. The company also benefits from a global network of international sales offices.
The Tata Steel Group ranks among the top global steel producers, with an annual crude steel capacity of 34 mln tons.
