Turkey’s scrap imports rose by 4pct YoY in the first eight months of 2024, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). From January to August 2024, Turkey imported approximately 13.5 mln tons of scrap.
The United States was the largest supplier during this period, providing about 2.93 mln tons, nearly unchanged from the previous year. The Netherlands and the UK followed, delivering approximately 1.81 mln tons and 1.46 mln tons, respectively.
In August 2024, Turkey imported around 2 mln tons of scrap, marking a 31pct YoY increase and a 23pct rise compared to the previous month.
