Crude steel production in the Middle East increased by 1.3pct YoY, reaching 44.1 mln tons during the first ten months of 2024, according to the World Steel Association. In October 2024, the region saw a 5.4pct YoY growth, producing 5 mln tons of crude steel.
The Middle Eastern countries tracked by the World Steel Association include Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Yemen.
Turkey, the world’s eighth-largest steel producer, reported a nearly 12.4pct YoY increase in steel production, reaching 30.9 mln tons between January and October 2024. In October alone, Turkish output rose slightly by 0.7pct YoY to 3 mln tons.
Iran, the tenth-largest steel producer globally, saw a modest increase of 0.6pct YoY to 25 mln tons in the first ten months of 2024. However, Iranian production fell by 2pct YoY in October to 3 mln tons.
In Africa, steel production rose by 1.9pct YoY, totaling 18.6 mln tons for the January-October period. However, in October, production slightly declined by 0.4pct YoY to 2 mln tons. African countries in the World Steel Association’s steel production list include Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and South Africa.
Globally, crude steel production fell by 1.6pct YoY, totaling 1.546 bln tons in the first ten months of 2024. However, in October, global production showed a slight increase of 0.4pct YoY to 151.2 mln tons.
China, the world’s largest steel producer, saw its output decrease by 3pct YoY to 850.7 mln tons between January and October. However, in October, Chinese production rose by 2.9pct YoY to 81.9 mln tons.
India’s crude steel production grew by 5.6pct YoY, reaching 123 mln tons in the same period. In October, India’s output increased by 1.7pct YoY to 12.5 mln tons. Japan’s steel production declined by 3.7pct YoY to 70.2 mln tons between January and October 2024. In October, Japanese output dropped by 7.8pct YoY to 6.9 mln tons.
