US firm appointed to sell unused steel plant in Dammam

US-based Gordon Brothers has been named the exclusive selling agent for a never-utilized flat and long steel production plant in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The plant, owned by one of GCC’s leading steel manufacturers, presents a unique opportunity for buyers to enter or expand in the high-quality steel market, the company said in a press release.

Originally purchased from Posco in 2007 to boost production capacity, the plant’s development was halted due to the 2008 financial crisis and later postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The equipment, totaling 10,200 cases and weighing over 53,000 tons, has remained unused, stored as per OEM guidelines. With market conditions stabilizing, the owner has decided to sell the advanced, near-complete facility.

The plant has a flat steel production capacity of 2 mln tons and long steel capacity of 1 mln tons. Key assets include:

Steel Casting: STS 4-strand billet caster (2008), Rokop 5-strand billet caster (1995), Mannesmann DEMAG 2-strand thin slab caster (1998)

Rolling Mills: Mitsubishi 5-stand 4-high hot strip mill (1998), UBE Industries 700,000 tons per annum hot skin-pass mill (1998)

Furnaces: 3 Inductotherm 30-ton induction furnaces (2008), 2 VAI Fuchs 80-ton electric arc furnaces (2000), Nippon Steel 150T ladle refining furnace (1998)

Power & Handling: 6 Wartsila 10.51 MW diesel generators (1997), 5 Sulzer 10.56 MW diesel generators (1994), 10 overhead cranes by Hyundai, Samsung, and Bando (12-110 tons)

Gordon Brothers, headquartered in Boston, operates over 30 offices across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
