Turkish steel exports rose 27.6pct in 2024 from the previous year, reaching 13.4 mln tons, driven by strong demand from the European Union.
Shipments to the EU surged 64.6pct YoY to 5.9 mln tons, according to the International Steel Statistics Bureau (ISSB).
Ahead of the new quota period, Turkey exported 610,310 tons of steel products to the EU in December 2024, up from 443,730 tons a year earlier.
Romania and Italy were the top destinations, as Turkish exporters benefited from lower production costs and competitive pricing.
Yemen, Ukraine, and the UK were also among Turkey’s top five export markets in December.
