    Finished steel consumption grew slightly in 2M FY24

    Iranian finished steel consumption witnessed a 0.5pct YoY increase during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21-May 21), reaching 3.59 mln tons for finished products, according to the Iranian Steel Producers Association.

    Among the finished steel consumption, long steel products accounted for the largest share, totaling 1.79 mln tons and experiencing a 3.1pct growth. Rebar constituted the majority in this category, with 1.4 mln tons, reflecting a 1pct increase. Beams followed with 236,000 tons, marking a significant rise of 17pct, while L-beam, T-beam, and other types of beams reached 149,000 tons, showing a 3.5pct growth.

    On the other hand, flat steel products constituted 1.75 mln tons of the finished steel apparent use, indicating a slight decline of 0.8pct. Hot-rolled coil accounted for the largest share among flat steel products, reaching 1.66 mln tons (down 4.2pct). Cold-rolled coil witnessed a substantial increase of 19pct with 507,000 tons, while coated coil experienced a significant surge of 208.9pct with 312,000 tons.

    Semi-finished steel consumption stood at 4.9 mln tons, indicating a significant growth of 18pct. The apparent use for billet and bloom amounted to 2.95 mln tons, exhibiting an increase of 14.6pct. However, slab consumption decreased by 13pct to reach 1.95 mln tons.

    Additionally, the consumption of direct reduced iron (DRI) reached 6.51 mln tons, showing a slight decline of 0.3pct.
