Blastr to supply low-carbon steel to Knauf Interfer

Blastr Green Steel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Knauf Interfer, a leading European metal processing company, to supply 100,000 tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually. This partnership aims to significantly boost the availability of decarbonized steel products in Europe.

Blastr is establishing a low-carbon steel value chain that reduces CO2 emissions by over 90pct compared to traditional steelmaking by using hydrogen instead of coal and feedstock generated from clean energy. The company plans to develop a steel plant in Inkoo, Finland, capable of producing 2.5 mln tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually, alongside a green pellets plant in the UK to cater to increasing European demand for sustainable industrial solutions.

Blastr and Knauf Interfer will collaborate to create a European ultra-low CO2 steel supply network, utilizing Knauf Interfer’s production and supply chain management system centered at their trimodal hub in Duisburg, Germany. This strategic location in Europe’s largest inland port will enhance logistics, ensuring efficient and sustainable delivery to Central European customers.

Blastr Green Steel aims to produce 2.5 mln tons of cost-competitive ultra-low CO2 steel, achieving 90pct lower scope 1-3 emissions compared to conventional production. As part of Vanir Green Industries, Blastr Green Steel is positioned to become one of the largest industry start-ups in the Nordic region.
