Blastr Green Steel has signed an MoU with Interfere Edelstahl Group, a leading European steel trader, to supply 150,000 tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually. This marks the second offtake agreement in just over a month, collectively accounting for 10pct of the planned capacity at Blastr’s upcoming green steel plant in Inkoo, Finland. Last month, the company signed a similar agreement with Knauf Interfer for 100,000 tons of annual supply.
The Interfere agreement secures long-term supply from the Inkoo plant, with deliveries slated to begin by the end of 2029. The plant will produce HRC-grade steel with embodied CO2 emissions below 500 kg per ton, compared to 2,200 kg in conventional steelmaking. Discussions for a binding agreement are expected to start in early 2025.
Blastr Green Steel aims to produce 2.5 mln tons of cost-competitive ultra-low CO2 steel, achieving 90pct lower scope 1-3 emissions compared to conventional production. As part of Vanir Green Industries, Blastr Green Steel is positioned to become one of the largest industry start-ups in the Nordic region.
