SSAB and Stena Metall have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to ensure the delivery of recycled scrap metal from Stena Nordic Recycling Center in Halmstad, Sweden, to SSAB’s new electric arc furnace in Oxelosund.
This collaboration will enable a higher volume of recycled metal to be reused in Sweden, strengthening the steel production value chain while minimizing carbon emissions. The first deliveries are scheduled to coincide with the ramp-up of the new electric arc furnace, with shipments primarily transported by train between Halmstad and Oxelosund.
SSAB is committed to converting its entire Nordic production system to produce steel with nearly zero fossil carbon emissions, while increasing its share of premium products. Oxelosund will be the first site to implement this transformation, with the new production system set to start up by the end of 2026.
