Tata Steel UK secures first green steel supply deal with JCB

Tata Steel UK has signed an MoU with JCB to supply low-CO2 steel from its Port Talbot site, supporting JCB’s focus on carbon reduction in manufacturing and equipment.

This marks Tata Steel UK’s first supply agreement since announcing a USD 1.58 bln joint investment with the UK Government to transition to high-quality, low-CO2 steel production.

The transformation includes building a 3-mln-ton-per-year electric arc furnace (EAF), among the world’s largest, which will use UK-sourced scrap to produce steel, cutting CO2 emissions at Port Talbot by up to 90pct and reducing the UK’s total carbon emissions by 1.5pct.

Tata Steel has contracted Tenova to deliver the EAF and advanced equipment, with site transformation set to begin in summer 2025.
