Electra and Interfer sign MoU for sustainable iron supply for green steel

US-based Electra, specializing in low-carbon iron production, has signed an MoU with Interfer Edelstahl Group, a global steel and raw materials trader, to collaborate on clean iron production for specialty steel.

Interfer, a leader in sourcing low-carbon materials for green steel, will use Electra’s 99pct pure iron to help its customers achieve decarbonization targets.

Interfer, with over 35 years in the market, imports steel bars to Europe and supports the supply of long and flat products. The collaboration aligns with Interfer’s goal to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 42pct by 2030, based on 2022 levels.

Electra’s low-temperature, electrochemical-hydrometallurgical process uses a variety of ores and renewable energy to produce gangue-free iron, ready for electric arc furnaces. The company is headquartered in Colorado and backed by steel and iron ore producers like Nucor and BHP.
