SKF advances decarbonization with Swiss Steel partnership

SKF is accelerating its journey to meet its 2030 decarbonization targets and achieve net-zero emissions across its supply chain by 2050. In a new collaboration, SKF is sourcing “GreenSteel Climate+” from Swiss Steel Group for bars and wires used in its EMEA operations.

GreenSteel Climate+, made from recycled steel scrap in electric arc furnaces powered by renewable energy, has helped SKF reduce CO2 emissions from steel bars and wires by 40pct over nine months. The steel is used directly in SKF’s European plants and by its suppliers.

Swiss Steel Group, a leading electric arc furnace steel producer in Europe, specializes in recycling and the circular economy. Its crude steel CO2 emissions are significantly lower than industry averages, with “GreenSteel Climate+” manufactured entirely with renewable electricity, cutting Scope 2 emissions.
