EMSTEEL has chosen Primetals Technologies to supply a new wire rod outlet for Rebar Mill No. 05 and upgrade the existing wire rod mill at RM No. 03 in Abu Dhabi. The projects form part of EMSTEEL’s Asset Enhancement Programme, aimed at boosting capacity, improving product quality, and supporting entry into higher-value segments such as tire cord, seismic rebar, PC strand, welding wire, and alloyed cold-heading grades.
The new outlet at RM No. 05 will expand EMSTEEL’s range to include plain wire rod (5.5-24 mm) and rebar in coil (8-16 mm). Primetals has also redesigned the existing mill to tighten tolerances, reduce wear, and optimize load distribution. The installation will feature an 8-stand eDrive Morgan No-Twist Mill, Reducing/Sizing Mill, Intelligent Pinch Roll, Morgan Laying Head, Stelmor cooling conveyor, in-line heat treatment, and advanced coil handling systems. A full Level 1 and Level 2 automation suite will enhance process control and production management.
The equipment will be preassembled off-site to minimize downtime and accelerate commissioning. At RM No. 03, the upgrade includes a new Morgan Stelmor Controlled Cooling Conveyor integrated into the existing structure, improving cooling performance and wire rod properties, especially for demanding PC strand grades.
Additional roller modules, Optimesh air distribution, new drives, a new motor, and updated automation will further enhance product consistency and mill performance.
