Acciaierie Venete has completed a major safety upgrade at its Buja plant, covering the reheating furnace, roughing mill and descaling areas. The program focused on strengthening controlled access, power isolation and monitoring of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
The project was executed by AIC Group, a global automation and power control specialist.
New safety boxes with trapped key systems were installed in the carousel, post-carousel and Y walkway areas to ensure secure and authorized access during maintenance. In the roughing section, two local control stations were added to improve operational safety, while enhanced electrical protections include a new disconnect switch for the main motor and medium-voltage feeder isolation as a backup.
Additional measures include zero-rotation monitoring sensors, a dedicated brake to reduce stopping time, safety PLC-controlled roller table shutdown, seven safety cut-off valves for hydraulic and pneumatic isolation, and two new Remote I/O safety cabinets integrated with existing panels.
Founded in 1957, Acciaierie Venete is a leading Italian producer of special long steels serving automotive, engineering, energy and construction markets.
