AGSI advances net-zero rebar production with HRM 3 start-up

UAE-based Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) has completed both cold and hot trials at its new rolling mill, HRM 3, located at ICAD II in Abu Dhabi.

The mill is now in the final stages of commissioning and certification and forms part of AGSI’s integrated meltshop-to-rolling operations, the company said. The investment is part of a broader expansion of AGSI’s rolling mill capabilities as the company transitions from a merchant billet producer to a fully integrated steel manufacturer.

HRM 3 is hot-charged directly from AGSI’s steel meltshop and has an annual capacity of 600,000 tons of net-zero steel rebars. Once fully operational, the mill will add 600,000 tons per year of rolling capacity to AGSI’s production base.

AGSI’s rolling portfolio also includes HRM 2, a light and medium sections mill with annual capacity of 240,000 tons.

In parallel, AGSI is upgrading HRM 1, with commissioning of the upgraded line expected in the second quarter of 2026. Following completion, HRM 1’s annual capacity will increase to 800,000 tons.

AGSI is a privately owned steel producer and the largest scrap recycler in the UAE, with annual production capacity of 720,000 tons of billet, 960,000 tons of rebar, and 240,000 tons of light and medium sections. The company has achieved net-zero emissions at its Abu Dhabi plant, becoming the first net-zero steel plant in the MENA region.
