ArcelorMittal said its ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks unit is considering the possible closure of its facility in Ghent, after launching a formal information and consultation process with employee representatives.
The company said a review of the business showed the Ghent site has faced persistent challenges, including a sharp decline in volumes, significantly reduced margins and accumulated losses over several years, prompting consideration of a shutdown. Discussions with employee representatives will focus on the future of the operation, and no final decision has been taken at this stage.
ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks said it remains committed to engaging transparently with employees throughout the consultation process. The business has been affected by the broader contraction of Europe’s automotive manufacturing sector.
ArcelorMittal’s Tailored Blanks division is a world leader in laser-welded blanks with design and production facilities in most part of the world.
