Turkish steel producer Borcelik, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Borusan Holding, has chosen Danieli technology for its new cold-mill complex in Gemlik, Bursa, Turkey.
The new pickling line coupled with a cold rolling mill (PLTCM) will process 1.6 mln tons per year of hot-rolled strip, with a future expansion to 2 mln tons annually. It will handle strips from 1.80 to 6.00 mm thick and up to 1895 mm wide, producing cold-rolled strips from 0.3 to 3.00 mm thick for automotive and construction uses.
The pickling line will feature Danieli’s patented Turboflo technology for efficient scale removal and adjustable turbulence, achieving speeds of up to 250 m/min. The tandem cold mill, equipped with Danieli’s 6-Hi Optimized Shaped Roll Technology (OSRT), will ensure optimal strip flatness and performance at speeds up to 1250 m/min. It will include a fifth stand for future capacity expansion.
The new continuous galvanizing and annealing line (CGAL), Turkey’s first CGL+CAL combi line, will have a capacity of 500,000 tons per year. It will use the Danieli Kohler X-Jet air-wiping system for precise zinc coating, achieving a coating weight down to 40 g/m2 per side at speeds of 180 m/min.
Danieli Automation will provide advanced process control systems to ensure quality and consistency. The CGAL is scheduled to start up in August 2026, followed by the PLTCM plant in October 2026.
