Daido Steel wins electric arc furnace engineering order from Nippon Steel

Japan’s Daido Steel Co., Ltd. has secured an engineering contract from Nippon Steel Corporation for an electric arc furnace plant to be installed at Nippon Steel’s Setouchi Steel Works (Hirohata area), Daido Steel said.

Under the contract, Daido Steel will provide engineering services for the entire electric arc furnace plant, including auxiliary facilities. The electric arc furnace itself will be supplied by Italy-based Tenova S.p.A. The project forms part of Nippon Steel’s broader investment program to shift production from blast furnace operations toward electric arc furnace steelmaking.

The new electric furnace will have a heat size of 110 tons per charge and an annual production capacity of around 500,000 tons. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of fiscal year 2029.
