India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel (CRNGO) from China, according to an official notification. The investigation was initiated following an application by Posco Maharashtra Steel and CSCI Steel Corporation India, representing the domestic steel industry.
The applicants allege that the imported steel is being sold at dumped prices, causing significant harm to local manufacturers. They have also raised concerns about a looming threat of material injury to the domestic steel sector due to the influx of these underpriced imports. As a result, they are pushing for the imposition of anti-dumping duties to safeguard the domestic industry from further damage.
The product under investigation is defined as cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel, also known as CRNGO, including cold-rolled flat steel products made from silicon-electrical steel, in coils or sheets of various widths and thicknesses. These materials are used in key applications, such as the inner cores of power generators and electric motors.
The notification specifies that the product falls under HS codes 7225.1920, 7225.1990, 7226.1920, and 7226.1990, with additional imports observed under HS codes such as 7225.5010, 7210.7000, 7226.1910, 7226.9110, and 7226.1100. The period of investigation spans from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, while the injury investigation period covers April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2024.
