Dillinger orders new blast furnace staves

Dillinger has placed an order with SMS group for Paul Wurth cast iron staves and additional copper staves for blast furnace 5, which has an annual hot metal capacity of about 2.5 mln tons.

The equipment will replace the existing copper staves and supports Dillinger’s strategy to extend the blast furnace campaign. The cast iron staves will be installed in the upper furnace areas, providing durable cooling, protecting the furnace shell from thermal loads, and supporting stable operations.

Dillinger selected cast iron staves to better align capital expenditure with expected service life. The current Paul Wurth copper lining, installed in 2010, achieved a 16-year service life, while the new cast iron staves are designed to meet the plant’s long-term operating requirements.

Dillinger, based in Dillingen, Germany, is a leading European producer of high-quality heavy plates for demanding applications such as offshore wind, pipelines, construction and shipbuilding.
