India turned a net exporter of finished steel in October, with outbound shipments reaching 0.64 mln tons, up 44.8pct from a year earlier, according to provisional data from the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) under the Ministry of Steel.
Imports fell sharply to 0.45 mln tons, a 55.6pct YoY decline.
Indian steel mills produced 13.4 mln tons of finished steel in October, up 10pct from last year, while domestic consumption rose 4.7pct to 13.6 mln tons.
The country’s crude steel output reached 14.02 mln tons, an increase of 9.4pct YoY, the data showed.
