Hadeed awards front-end engineering contract for flat steel expansion project

Spanish engineering firm IDOM has announced that it is developing the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase for the flat products expansion project of Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed).

Although details were limited, IDOM said the project will be implemented at Hadeed’s Jubail facilities and is aimed at increasing production capacity while optimizing existing logistics. The company added that the use of advanced technologies, combined with the site’s strategic location, is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency.

Hadeed previously said on the sidelines of a conference in Riyadh that it plans to almost double its annual steelmaking capacity to around 10 mln tons under a USD 6.6 bln investment programme focused on flat and specialized steel products.

Hadeed is the GCC’s major steel producer with an annual capacity of 3.8 mln tons of long products and 2.2 mln tons of flat products. The company was acquired by the Public Investment Fund in May 2024.
