China’s JISCO Carbon Steel has commenced production on the world’s first integrated line combining hot strip mill (HSM) and compact strip production (CSP) technologies at its Jiayuguan plant. The new line lifts annual capacity to 4.5 mln tons from 2 mln tons while expanding the company’s ability to produce higher value-added steel grades.
The project, supplied by SMS group, enables rapid switching between CSP and HSM routes, improving operational flexibility and throughput. The first coil was successfully rolled on December 30, 2025, with stable performance achieved from the initial start-up.
SMS provided the full automation scope, integrating CSP and HSM operations through its X-Pact automation platform. The system synchronizes scheduling and rolling between furnaces, allowing real-time process adjustments while maintaining consistent quality. Modular installation allowed the upgrade to be completed without interrupting ongoing CSP production.
